WELLNESS Magazine was proud to attend the grand opening of Mother’s Market on August 17, 2014. Mother’s Market (located on 109 Street and 102 Avenue) is Edmonton’s first year-round, indoor multi-day market. Visitors and dignataries at the grand opening were treated to an official ribbon cutting, and various Cree traditions including a smudging ceremony by a Cree elder, a traditional hoop dance and a warrior dance by two Cree performers from Saskatchewan. Open since June 20, the market is proud to present fresh, local fare. With unique products and foods, such as year-round tropical fruits, soaps, meats, arts and crafts and more, founder Bob Holm with sons Liam, Stephan and Dylan, and partner Phil Filipchuk saw the need for such a market in Edmonton. Located at the old and iconic Mother’s Music location, the market offers two levels of variety. While the lower level is filled with all one would expect to see and more at a farmers market, the upstairs offers shopping and tasty foods from court vendors. Shoppers can also take their meals outside to enjoy the beautiful second-floor patio.
Mother’s Market is open Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. www.edmontonfarmersmarket.com
